Basements are a place used to store items, create a living space, office space, and many has many other uses. If you notice these issues, you will want to repair them right away.
Preventing mold before it appears is best by keeping your basement dry. Respiratory complications and allergies can be affected by mold growth. Using moisture resistant building materials for walls and proper ventilation and dehumidifiers will help keep mold from growing.
Moisture is the common cause of most musty odors. Pests are another source. If you notice a damp smell or odor, it is a likely bet that you are either dealing with a humidity issue that can be helped with the aid of a dehumidifier or possibly a small leak, or water seepage. Contact a basement repair specialist who can help diagnose the issue before it becomes a major problem.
Rotting Carpet and Flooring
If you haven’t notice, Moisture is a big culprit in basement issues. If you notice your carpet is rotting or wood flooring is warping or rotting. Moisture again is the issue. It would be best to find this issue and fix it before replacing the carpet or floor.
An uneven floor is a sign that you basement floor may be sinking. Soil below the floor may be shifting and also causing your foundation to move too. Cracks can appear and get worse over time. Addressing this quickly can save you a lot of time and money in the long run.
Think of it, your deck is exposed to the sun, rain, ice and snow all year, it can only take so much before it needs some maintenance.
Giving your deck an annual inspection and making the minor repairs needed can keep small problems from becoming big ones.
Check for rot- Look around posts where they are in contact with the ground or concrete. Any part of the deck that is touching the ground can be suspect of rot.
Check for Cracks in decking boards. More then anything, a cracked decking board is a cosmetic issue but can become dangerous for bare feet and tripping. Replacing a decking board is easy but tough to match.
Check the railings. Handrails and posts can become loose, adding additional screws can be a quick fix.
Check out the Ledger. The ledger is the framing portion that attaches the deck to the house. Make sure the flashing isn’t warn out and replace any missing nails. An improper ledger installation is the cause of most decks collapsing and if you see an issue it would be best to call a professional.
Check for raised nails. Nails can raise due to temperature and moisture changes. Keeping the nails in the decking boards is also safer for bare feet and if you shovel you deck in the winter, you already are aware of the annoyance of having a raised nail when you hit it with the shovel.

Spring is upon us, here a a few money-saving home improvements that can help save you money. Right now is a good time to get these done!
Inspect and repair your roof. Spring is the time to get out on the roof to check for ice, hail or water damage from the past winter (or winters). Repairing minor damage can be a quick fix, and staying on top of your roof’s condition can save you money by avoiding water damage and more costly repairs in the future.
Re-caulk windows and doors. You might have caulked your doors and windows before the winter chill set in. Unfortunately, even the best caulk can harden, crack and shrink when it’s cold outside. So check your windows and doors, and replace as needed.
Clean your gutters. This can be a chore for many, but it’s important. Water doesn’t properly pass through clogged gutters. And that means more water gets near the foundation of your home. This may not cause immediate problems, but over time, too much water near the foundation can cause damage creating an expensive repair.
Clean the dryer vent, your dryer is less efficient with a lint-filled vent. Even if you clean the lint trap before every load of laundry, you’ll still get some lint in the vent hose, which builds up over time.
Check the washing machine hoses. Over time, washing machine hoses can crack, which can cause leaks. Sometimes, these inconspicuous leaks go on for weeks or months unnoticed, usually because the washer is pushed back into a corner. This can cause mold problems, water damage and more.
