An egress window is an escape window designed to allow emergency escape and rescue should your staircase be unusable. Code requires that and opening of an egress window be equal or greater than 5.7 square feet, with a minimum opening height of 24 inches, and a minimum opening width of 20 inches.
Window wells are required if the window is below ground level. Residential requirements will differ from commercial buildings.
What Are Egress Windows?
Installing basement wall insulation will almost always save you money through lower energy bills. An additional benefit to insulated basement walls is that they are less susceptible to condensation and mold.
It is important to make sure that your basement doesn’t have any water problems before installing any interior wall insulation. If you have noticed any water problems, they need to be addressed before hand. There are many ways to insulate your basement using different insulating materials, but the use of fibrous insulation like fiberglass, mineral wool or cellulose can be a problem if they are used against a below grade concrete wall and have been known to allow moisture in the air to condense and lead to moisture problems.
Brewer contracting can assess your basement and come up with the right insulation method. We are also able to check and repair any water leak issues before insulation is installed.
An issue homeowners can run into is when they encounter water rising up through their basement floor.
There are ways of preventing water leaks from a basement floor by installing a Perimeter Drainage System, a Lateral Line drainage system and/or a drainage channel. We can help you decide on the best action or combination of actions to be done.
Installing the proper drainage system in your basement and repairing the basement floor cracks can be effectively done by Brewer Contracting.
