Does your basement leak in the winter?

Basement water doesn’t always come from rain, during the winter snow and ice surround our basements.  If the waterproofing isn’t very good or failing, you can get water.

Things you should check on can be that your downspouts for

Your gutters could simply be draining too close to your home, or the grade under the downspouts could be off.  If the water isn’t being pulled away from your home from the downspouts, you could have a water problem.

Speaking of that, check the slope around the foundation of your home may not be sloping away from your home.  This is very common and can cause water to drain into your basement.

Your Basement wall or floor has cracks.  Cracks are very common and can occur as your home settles.  Proper repair can be a quick fix.

Your basement radiates heat.  It is a good idea to keep snow and ice away from your homes foundation to lessen the snow/ice melt and giving it a chance to become a problem.
